Let’s dive into some easy, creative, and meaningful Father’s Day Gift ideas your dad will treasure forever!

Wooden Signs with a Personal Touch

Create a rustic wooden sign saying “Best Dad Ever”, “Dad’s Garage”, “Dad is My Hero”, “Dad Loves Fishing”, or “King of the Grill.” Use stencils and/or rubber or clear stamps and ink, chalk or acrylic paint, acrylic paint pens or permanent markers to add your message. Add embellishments such as dad’s favourite sports theme. This makes a great addition to his workshop, office, man cave, or BBQ area.

DIY Collage – Popular for Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Make a memory collage using printed photos (don’t use originals unless you have duplicates), decorative stickers, washi tape, and meaningful quotes. Mount it on a canvas or inside a shadow box frame. Include snapshots from family vacations, silly selfies, and handwritten notes. Add some die cuts as well if you like.

This project is perfect for kids who want to give a sentimental, low-cost gift to a special dad.

Grandpa’s Garage Sign

Don’t forget about grandpa. Here is a YouTube video with instructions for a Garage Sign for grandpa.

Decoupage Projects

Use decoupage to personalise trays, mugs, coasters, or even a new cap for dad. Don’t decorate dad’s favourite cap! With patterned paper, pretty napkins, peel-and-stick vinyl, self-adhesive vinyl, old maps, or even comics, you can create a stylish and durable finish. Just seal it with Mod Podge or another suitable sealant for a long-lasting gift.

Idea: Cover a tray with comic book pages from Dad’s favourite superhero series, then add a quote like “You’re My Hero.”

Decorate a Gift Box for Dad

Create a custom-decorated father’s day gift box, using a round, square or rectangular gift box and fill it with treats or personal items. Decorate the box with stickers, paint, rubber and/or clear stamps (used with an ink stamp pad), and/or patterned paper (used with Mod Podge or another suitable glue), to decorate the outside (it is preferable not to paint the inside of the box when giving a gift of edibles). Inside the box, depending on the size you choose to use, you can include:

  • Homemade cookies or snacks
  • Socks, a mini cologne, or hand cream
  • A mini book of “10 Reasons Why I Love Dad”

Custom Mugs for Dad – One of the favourite Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Use ceramic stickers or paint pens to decorate a plain white mug with sayings such as “World’s Best Dad,” “Coffee Powered Dad,” or “You are the Best Dad”. You can fill it with dad’s favourite coffee beans, chocolates, or a tea sampler. Wrap the mug in clear cellophane paper and tie the top of the cellophane with a colourful or Jute ribbon.

Remember: Hand-decorated and painted mugs should be hand-washed unless sealed with dishwasher-safe Mod Podge or another suitable sealant. Follow the instructions on the sealant.

*Sharpie Oil Paint Pens can be used to write or draw on the outside of a ceramic mug. Let the paint dry. Wait a few days before trying to handwash the artwork.”

Mini Books or DIY Coupons

Kids can make a small book or coupon booklet for Dad. Ideas include:

  • “10 Things I Love About You”
  • “Dad’s Day Off Coupons” – redeemable for foot rubs, breakfast in bed, etc.
  • “Dad Jokes of the Year” booklet
  • Use cardstock, washi tape, and stickers to bind your mini book beautifully.

DIY ideas for Dog Dads

Let’s not forget the proud Dog Dads!

  • Frame a picture with a paw print and photo of the dog.
  • Create a custom leash holder, or
  • Gift a keyring with the dog’s name.
    • Fun Touch: Use a dog bone-shaped embellishment or stamp a paw with paint or ink.

DIY Caps or T-Shirts

  • Use fabric markers or iron-on transfers to create custom t-shirts or caps.
  • You can also use stencils.
  • If you have Mod Podge photo transfer, follow the instructions on the bottle, print out a picture of dad’s dog and transfer the picture of the dog onto a t-shirt or cap.

Ideas for Stencil Decoration on Caps and T-shirts

  • “Grill Master”
  • “#1 Dad”
  • “Dad Mode: ON”
  • Add handprints or footprints of the kids

Craft Tip: Pre-wash clothing before decorating. Before painting and decorating the T-Shirt, visit our blog for precise instructions.

Depending on the fabric paint you use, you may have to heat set the t-shirt or your artwork may wash out. Check the instructions on the paints.

Handmade Card with a Pop-Up or Pull Tab

Go beyond a basic greeting card  – make a pop-up or interactive card! Include a message like “Pull to Reveal How Awesome You Are” with a slider mechanism inside.

Idea: Add small stickers or 3D elements from your craft kits to create depth and interest.

Kids will enjoy making dad a special card.

Paint a Canvas or a T-Shirt using a Transfer of your Choice

For the dad who loves the outdoors, use an iron-on fishing transfer or any other transfer to create a custom-painted canvas (or T-Shirt). If you’re painting a T-Shirt, place a clean cloth inside the t-shirt before ironing on the transfer to prevent the design from going through to the back of the t-shirt.  Once you’ve ironed on the transfer, use fabric paint if you’re making a t-shirt or acrylic paint for a canvas or picture to bring the design to life.

Stencil a Custom Art Piece for Dad

Use a stencil to paint a bold design on a canvas, wood sign, wood slice or quality paper. Create something just for Dad, whether it’s a mountain scene, a BBQ graphic, or a simple “#1 Dad” slogan. Frame it or attach a hanger for easy wall display.

Bake Dad his Favourite Cookies or Treats

Spend time in the kitchen and bake Dad’s favourite cookies, brownies, or muffins. Package them in a decorated tin, gift box or mason jar. Otherwise, use a patterned paper bag tied with twine and a handmade tag. Add a cute sticker that says “Made with Love for Dad.”

Create a Candy Jar or Snack Kit – Perfect Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Use a new Mason Jar, clean it out and dry it well. Paint the outside of the jar with white (or any colour you choose) chalk paint. Let the paint dry, then paint the mason jar with a coat of Mod Podge or another suitable sealant. Let it dry completely. Then give the jar another coat of chalk paint. Let it dry overnight. Print out a label such as “Dad’s Secret Stash” or “Fuel for Super Dads”. Glue the label onto the Mason Jar using Mod Podge or another suitable glue. (Use a paint brush or large sponge brush to spread the glue.) Make sure that the label goes on smoothly. Smooth it out gently with a piece of plastic wrap. Wait a couple of hours and then seal your artwork with another coat of Mod Podge. Let it dry overnight. Finally, dad’s gift is ready to be filled with his favourite candies, chips, jerky, or chocolates. (Do not paint the inside of the jar; place a doily or napkin at the bottom of the jar; then wrap the edible contents before putting them in the jar. Dad’s gift is ready. All it needs is a pretty bow tied around the lid of the jar. It will be worth the work when you see dad’s smile.
