You might be surprised to find out that besides the birth of Jesus on December 25, there have been more than a few other big events on that same day. In fact, we’ve been able to unearth so many strange and wonderful things that happened at Christmas, you might be tempted to scour the news to see what you can add to our list this year.
There have been at least two other famous people whose lives were touched by this holiday. Charlie Chaplin, the silent screen star that was a great comedian and influence on today’s modern comedy scene, passed away on December 25 in 1977 at the age of eighty-eight. The world of science hasn’t been untouched by this special day either since Christmas also marks the birthday of Sir Isaac Newton, the scientist that first discovered gravity. He was born in 1642 and was also a pioneer in the field of mathematics.
Finally, we might be cheating just a bit by rolling the calendar back, but we thought you’d like to know the endearing Christmas classic, Silent Night, was first performed on Christmas Eve in the Austrian village of Oberndorf on Christmas Eve in 1818.
