Wooden Slide Pencil Box – Paint and Decorate
This is a pretty Wooden Slide Pencil Box for kids to paint and decorate. It has a slide closure lid. This makes it even easier to remove and paint the design on the lid.
DIY Ideas:
1. Paint Lid Leaf Design and then paint a Name on the sides (Bright and Personal) –
- Theme: Colourful, cheerful, and personalised
- Skill level: Easy
Materials:
- Acrylic paint or paint pens
- Painter’s tape
- Stickers (stars, hearts, animals, etc.)
- Clear sealer (optional, adult help)
How to Do It:
Lid (Top Sliding Piece):
- Paint the leaf design on the lid with different shades of green acrylic paints.
Box Sides:
- Keep it simple: paint a solid colour (like light blue or pastel pink).
- Add small matching stickers such as flowers, hearts, stars or any stickers near the corners.
- Stencil a name on one side of the box and embellish the other side of the pencil box with assorted stickers.
- These are only ideas. Let the kids use their creativity.
👉 Tip: Avoid thick stickers near the edges of the lid so it slides easily.
2. Cute Animal Theme (Fun & Playful)
Lid (paint the design with different colours or one solid colour).
Box Sides:
Use a stencil or sketched design and your preferred colour on the sides of the box to match the colour(s) you used for the lid design.
Suggestions:
- Use a solid colour to paint the sides of the box. A colour such as white, cream or another suitable solid colour would probably be best, but of course, it is your choice.
- Now you are ready to decide on your theme.
- Theme: Choose a favourite animal (unicorn, dinosaur, puppy, cat, panda, etc.) for the sides of the box. Why not use a stencil?
- Animal stickers would also work.
- Skill level: Easy and fun
Materials:
- Acrylic paint or paint pens
- Simple stencils (optional)
- Black fine paint marker
- Clear matte sealer (optional)
Suggestion: If drawing feels tricky, you can use a stencil or print a simple outline and trace it lightly.
Extra Easy Option (No Paint Mess!)
- Leave the lid design plain or colour it in with a marker and then use a black marker to outline the design.
- Use colourful washi tape to make stripes or borders on the box sides. Leave space for a name. Add vinyl name lettering.
- For Sides of Box: Finish with a clear matte sealant spray (adult help). You can use Mod Podge spray sealant (preferably in a well-ventilated area) or sponge or paint on some Mod Podge Matte sealant (if working indoors)
- Let it dry completely before use.
These are only ideas. The possibilities are endless. Use your creativity and make this a really fun project. It is a useful project which can be used at home, for school or to give as a gift.
